Daar zie je de belangrijkste hoofdrolspelers van deze natuurkundige revolutie, wat extra inbeeldingsvermogen kan opleveren bij het lezen.<br /><br /> Ten tweede weet Kumar de zeer complexe materie verstaanbaar te maken voor de leek. Eigenlijk moeten we zeggen: quasi-verstaanbaar voor de quasi-leek. Precies wat dat betreft zijn we Kumar dank verschuldigd. Al op de voorpagina van het eerste deel waarin hij verhaalt van de onverwachtse en ongewenste ontdekking van het kwantum, schotelt hij ons een citaat voor van Niels Bohr, de Deense koning van het kwantum: 'Want wie niet schrikt wanneer hij voor het eerst met de kwantumtheorie in aanraking komt, kan er onmogelijk iets van begrepen hebben'<br /><br /> Ten derde kunnen we niet anders dan met open mond nadenken over de hoeveelheid materiaal die Kumar heeft moeten doorploegen als research. Natuurlijk gaat hij haast nergens, bij geen enkel beschreven experiment, argument of vergelijking, echt de diepte in. Dat kan niet als je als auteur zo'n lange periode en zo'n groot gebied wilt beslaan. Maar daar schuilt juist de kracht: Kumar weet telkens de essentie te pakken, en dat over een vakgebied dat in een eeuw ontstond, veranderde en uitbreidde als een gek.
